3. Another method
Using the GUI program Grsync may make the transfers easier if you want
whole directories in your home like:    Documents       Desktop Downloa
ds ... etc.
This GUI has some built in ? help to show you how to get desired
results in source dir ( trailing / OR no trialing /
Probably not advisable to do the home directory itself because then the
hidden  <dot> directories of the fresh installed home would get
clobbered on the laptop hdd fresh install.
As far as hardware you may own would vary how many steps of grsync it
may take. Or just use USB stick to shuttle them in two steps (copy on,
copy off of usb stick)
Tip: try it first on a small amount of data directory  first. (and did
it do what you wanted)
