yes; X11 cannot reliably give us the size of the display, unless you use
XRandR, which is not supported by everyone (and I'm looking at you,
nVidia), and if we try setting a size of the window to the Display* as a
fall back, in case there *is* a window manager (another thing we cannot
reliably check) then it'll most likely do the wrong thing.

if you happen to know for sure that your environment won't have a window
manager, then you can get the Window XID from Clutter for the stage and
call XMoveResizeWindow + clutter_actor_set_size() yourself.

my other suggestion is to use a minimal, EWMH-compliant window manager,
like twm.
