There is a typo on the patch:
SET(CMAKE_ENABLE_NINJA ${_CMAKE_DEFAULT_NINJA_VALUE} CACHE BOOL

You mention CMAKE_USE_NINJA on the last message, when it should be
CMAKE_ENABLE_NINJA.
