It depends on whether this is Part A or Part B therapy. Part B, patient can be put on hold until weight bearing begins without diffuculty. Part A, the facility has to be providing daily skilled services for the patient; if while not on therapy the patient is recieving other daily skilled services, then put therapy on hold and keep skilled - plan an OMRA in case weight bearing is not resumed for some reason. If therapy is the only skilled service and the 8-10 days can not be covered by any other service, then the skilled stay should be ended and resumed if therapy begins again. It depends on what you feel you can cover those 8-10 days with in terms of the skilled stay. Therapy can always be put on hold or discontinued per physician orders, the real question is how to document the stay in order to cover the condition of the patient.

Subject: pt/ot on hold

How long can pt/ot put on hold if the doctor ordered non-wt. bearing? 8-10 days?
