I have been
attempting to find the site to download these two manuals. Can anyone
out there help me? My last employer was gracious enough to take them
when I was waiting to move out of my office. I am now working as the
manager of a 16 bed skilled unit. I would love to have these back
again. For all who supported me during my time of stress at the
previous position, I thank you a great deal. The DON finally made the
mistake of lying to me. I had the evidence to prove it also. The
administrator supported me but I simply would not jeopardize my personal
values in order to continue to work there. I gave them a two week
notice, as MDSCO. The DON decided I did not have to work it out.
I was paid two weeks serverence pay, all my earned time, plus bonuses which
were due. I was fortunate enough to have had another position in
line. I had been interviewing, and they wined and dined. My old
DON was going to wait until I refused the other position and then drop the
bomb on me. I accidentally found out before that happened---thank
God. So instead of calling the facility to decline the position, I
accepted. It's strange though. I loved my job and where I
worked. The DON was simply dishonest and worked under the table on
many issues. We were both senior management. I only resigned
because of the dishonesty. The "bomb" was trivial and would not have
effected me in any manner.

On September 15th
2003 CMS and HHS rolled out a new program where they will be
offering mediation "as an optional method to resolve quality of care
complaints that Medicare patients or their representatives file involving a
practitioner or healthcare provider." I feel the part in quotes is
misleading but that is exactly how it is printed on handouts that
we have been provided by our QIO here in NJ. The reason I feel this way is
the voluntary mediation will be offered only when a non-quality of
care issue is found and I think beneficiaries may misunderstand the
meaning of these meetings. There is already long
standing policies on how to address actual quality of care issues and
that has not changed. Yesterday I attended my second
educational phone conference on this issue and Thursday I am scheduled
to attend an actual role playing session where I hope I will receive more
clarification on this somewhat confusing issue. I have asked and many others
have asked questions that still remain unanswered. I was wondering if others
have heard about this new program and what type of education they are
receiving.
