I would have thorough documentation that this resident and her family
stated that she did not sleep in a bed, that she slept in her recliner
for years which has served as her bed. I would care plan this and
explain that this is the resident's wishes. What most state regs imply
is that the facility must be able to provide a bed for each resident.
if the resident does not want the bed and wants to sleep in a recliner
and the recliner causes no potential problems, ie skin breakdown, etc.
then this is the resident's right.

Subject: recliner versus bed

Hello,all:

I know that the subject of a resident sleeping in her recliner instead
of a
bed was discussed a few days back, but I

don't remember what the information source was. We now have that
situation
and our call to the State for their

thoughts was"I don't know, I'll have to check for you." So we all know
how
long that will take. In the meantime, our

resident and family want the bed out of the room to make way for her
recliner which she had slept on for years. Will

you please cite the source so we can tell the State what the regs are?

As usual, thanks for all the good info I get here.
