You are correct in your conclusion.

QIs are not calculated on admission assessments thus you would rarely have a person with an assessment on which the QIs are calculated.

For example if you had 3 assessments with a quarterly type assessment 1 person could change your statistics from none or 0% triggered on a QI to 33%.

Subject: QI - missed the boat.

I need help understanding QI, I have taken the online course presented by AANAC but still need another source to clear things up for me.

I work at a small facility with 8 medicare-only certified beds and the rest of the beds are self pay (no Medicaid either) , my state requires submission of my 8 medicare beds only….if I understand things right, this is why my Facility Quality Indicator Profile shows all zeros.

Also the Resident Level Quality Indicator Summary only reveals info about my 8 medicare beds (many of which are filled with short term stays – 20 days or less) – I am not sure how the QIs can help me since so few of my residents are included in the statistics … is my thinking right here or have I missed the boat?

Any help here is appreciated…thanks.
