I work at a facility with only 6 medicare beds and the rest are all private pay.  We belong to a study at the University of Wisconsin, where I send all our MDS's, these are compared to the other participants in this study and that is where we get our Q.I.'s.

Subject: QI - missed the boat.

I need help understanding QI, I have taken the online course presented by AANAC but still need another source to clear things up for me.

I work at a small facility with 8 medicare-only certified beds and the rest of the beds are self pay (no Medicaid either) , my state requires submission of my 8 medicare beds only....if I understand things right, this is why my Facility Quality Indicator Profile shows all zeros.

Also the Resident Level Quality Indicator Summary only reveals info about my 8 medicare beds (many of which are filled with short term stays - 20 days or less) - I am not sure how the QIs can help me since so few of my residents are included in the statistics ... is my thinking right here or have I missed the boat?

Any help here is appreciated...thanks.
