Section T.1. must be completed per the instructions whether or not your ARD includes a lookback that encompasses actual therapy treatment. In this case it appears you would need to state that therapy was ordered and you would need an estimate of therapy to be provided or you would have to put in zero. If an eval has not been completed it is difficult to project accurately; you would have to refer to the physician order for the number of disciplines and go with a minimum estimation or again - project zero. However, if the therapy is fully expected to be rendered, then zero is not accurate either. I would recommend making sure therapy has at least screened the client and know why it is delayed and that the person is a good candidate for therapy and take it from there. Section T asks only for an estimation of the therapy to be provided through day 15, it does not require you to fulfill the exact amount you estimate, though that is your intention, because they know they are asking for an estimate and many variables may intervene. While it seems standard procedure to complete an eval and then give an estimate, it is still just an estimate and there is nothing that requires an evaluation be done before making the estimation. This type of decision needs to be made on a case by case basis because if the client is a good candidate for therapy and will recieve and eval and therapy, then an estimation may be the way to go. However, if the client is not a good candidate and therapy thinks there is a good chance therapy will not be provided, then you would estimate zero therapy and be done with it. Hope this helps, CKroll

Subject: Therapy projection on Admission assessments

My current therapy manager insists that she may project visits/minutes in Section T1b,c,d regardless of the evaluation date. In other words if the evaluation is performed after day 8 and no minutes have been delivered. The therapy was ordered on admission but had to be delayed. When I reviewed the RAI manual it states to review for therapy to begin in the first 14 days of stay. Then speak to theapyto determine if the initial eval is Completed and Tx scheduled.
My point is if the eval has not been performed how can an accurrate projection be made.
Is my understanding accurrate?
