The real question is: Is the dehydration
related to a condition treated in the hospital qualifying stay or developed
during the skilled stay in your facility? Since you are
debating about restarting Medicare coverage after almost a month after skilled
services ended, it seems doubtful to me that the IV is being used to treat
a condition that was treated while in the hospital or the skilled stay in the
SNF. IV fluids would be skillable if being given to treat a condition that
was treated in the hospital or skilled stay.

Subject: Skilled for Medicare?
Resident admitted from hospital under Medicare with last covered day of
11/6, no further skilled need. On 12/1 (today) had IV started for
dehydration with no meds in the IV, fluids only. Would she qualify for
Medicare, under her previous benefit or does there have to be meds in the IV
to qualify? We are doing increased assessment due to dx. Any input
appreciated.
