The ARD would need to be adjusted to reflect the missed day due to the midnight rule. The reference you need is on page 2-38 of the manual under the heading "Resident is Admitted to an Aucte Car Facility and Returns." The second paragraph states '"If a resident is out of the facilty over a midnight, but for less than 24 hours and is not admitted, the Medicare assessment schedule is not restarted. However, there are payment implications, since the day preceding a midnight on whcih the resident was absent for the facilty is not a covered Part A day. This is known as the "Midnight rule." The Medicare schedule must then be adjusted. The day preceding the midnight is not a covered part A day and therefore, the Medicare assessment "clock" is adjusted by skipping that day in calculating when the next Medicare assessment is due."

Subject: LOA - ARD window
When a Medicare resident has an LOA day......is the ARD window adjusted?
Ex.: 60 day window 11/19 - 12/3, resident has LOA on day on 11/15. Does the 60 day window remain the same or change to 11/20 - 12/4?
Please include documentation.
Thx in advance!
