I don't like them because they are a fall hazard! Both the staff and the
patients were tripping on the silly things. They only work for patients who
roll off the bed, because if the patient goes to stand up on one, they fall
from the unsteady surface. Be that as it may. The facility I was at only
used them next to the bed at night, and shoved them UNDER the bed when the
resident got up. By the way, have you shared with the DON the fact that the
surveyors are now citing for partial ( 1/2) side rails if they interfere
with the patient's visual access to the area, room mate, etc? Whether it's
a problem due to unsightliness I don't know, but if they aren't out during
the day while the patient's up & about, why is it an issue? During naps?
What about getting some kind of washable cover in a pretty color, say pink
or blue or flowered? Something to match the bedding or the paint?
