Karen,
I do NOT think that you could code the entire number of minutes for both. The
instructions on page 3-188 state "Two licensed therapists, each form a different
discipline, begin treating one resident at teh same time. The treatment edns 30
minutes after it starts. Fro each session record 30 minutes total therapy time for
the resdient at each session, record 30 minutes total therapy time at Item P1bB.
Split the time between the two disciplines as appropriate." So, the MDS is looking at
the resident's total time in therapy. If you marked the same minutes for both PT and
RT, it would appear as if the resident spent twice as much time in therapy as was the
case. The manual also shows that if a group of 4 or less residents are receiving
therapy from the same therapist, that each resident would have the entire time coded
on the MDS. So, the MDS is measuring the RESIDENT's time. For that reason, I would
either divide the time in 2, or split it another way to total the actual time that the
resident received therapy. It might be most advantageous to code all the minutes
under PT because of billing. Since you are fortunate enough to have an RT on staff,
it would be nice if she/he coudl treat separately sometimes so that her minutes would
show on the MDS.

Subject: treatment minutes
Ok I am asking again, Can Rec Therapy co-treat with Physical Therapy
and each count the entire number of minutes they worked with the
patient? I know we have to split time if it is between OT or Speech
therapy and Physical Therapy, but I am unsure about Rec Therapy.
Thanks
Karen
