If pressure was a factor in development of the abrasion, then the wound would be coded as a pressure ulcer.  The RAI User's Manual, last paragraph on page 3-162, notes that there may be situations in which "even slight rubbing or friction on the skin may cause minor pressure ulcers." 

I have seen situations in which a combination of slight pressure of a cast on the skin in conjunction with the rubbing or friction has caused what I assessed to be an ulcer that was correctly coded as a pressure ulcer on the MDS.  Each case must be assessed individually.
