Yes, as long as the LOA doesn't cause the resident to miss therapy days. We can't bill for the bed if the resident is not in it at midnight, however. PT is a 5 out of 7 day Medicare A service. Be sure the physician makes a progress note as to the therapeutic nature of the LOA. The Medicare LOA benefit is really for "Therapeutic LOA" and is usually reserved for trials to home or lesser care in anticipation of discharge. As long as the resident is not missing PT and so long as what the resident is receiving it for can also be provided at home during the LOA, you should be okay. Keep in mind that you could be vulnerable in a post payment review of the claim if it is during the period of the LOA if you lack documentation to support the therapeutic nature of the LOA.
