The first 2 statements are true, but you do start the Medicare schedule over again with a 5day MDS because they were gone over 24 hours.

Subject: to hosp for observation

Medicare A resident out to hosp for surgery, stayed over 24 hours(30), was expected to be admitted, but was on observation only, not inpatient per hospital billing dept.

Is the following correct?

do Discharge & reentry tracking forms, deduct 1 day from total days available, do NOT start Medicare schedule over again

difference of opinion here--thanks to anyone who can help
