Subj: RE: ASAP please....LOA- do they have to pay bed hold?Yes, if the resident is made aware that their absence without a bedhold does not guarantee them a return to a bed, let alone that bed. However, they may wish to take their chances if your census is down or several beds are open for new admits. Realistically, we would probably not fill the bed, but it is possible and the resident may choose to hold it to be assured.

Is it allowable to charge bed hold?

We cannot charge a bed hold. If the resident wants to assure that that
particular bed is available upon return to the center after the several days
leave, then she may elect to privately hold that bed. If she does not, the
facility does not get paid by anyone. What is the likehood that you would
need to fill that bed anyway? We just don't get paid when there is no one
in the bed at midnight.

If someone on medicare wants to leave to go home a few days
for Christmas, how does billing do this? I know from reading things here
that she can keep MCR and we do not bill MCR for the days she is out, but
who pays for these days? Does the family have to pay bedhold?
