If he was previously skilled for the peg feedings and this feeding meets the caloric and/or fluid intake for skilled services, then no, he will not receive a new benefit period.

Have a resident who was re-admitted to the hospital--has been here over a year with a PEG tube for all nutrition and hydration(used part A benefit about 1 year ago for this). He has had a new 3 day stay and now has a trach. Can he be skilled for the trach, or no because no break in spell of illness(went straight from here back to hospital)?? I am leaning towards no, but would like some input. Thanks. This e-mail and any attachments are confidential information intended for the sole use of the addressee listed.
