Each CCRC is different just as every LTC facility is different.  I worked in a CCRC for 12 years, it was 1000 beds, including independent living in cottages and apartments, an assisted living facility and SNF and subacute rehab beds.  The pace was challenging.  With a smaller facility, like the one you are describing, you will probably be called upon to work on the nursing units as well as complete MDSs.  All of the beds in my CCRC SNF (300) were certified so required MDSs to be completed.  Having a CCRC means that residents from independent living will be coming in and out along with the Assisted Living residents, but there will also be admissions from the community.  It can be easier to discharge residents from the SNF to the more independent levels of care, but when those areas are full, you are back to the usual discharge problems.   You can email me privately if you have any other questions.

Subject: CCRC-continuing care retirement centers

I'm going for an interview for an MDS position in a new CCRC.   They are currently under construction and will be opening in the next few months-37 beds with three neighborhoods-post-acute/rehab, dementia and LTC neighborhoods.   I'm excited for the opportunity but hesitant as my employment has been in SNF's including hospital-based, and other traditional LTC's in the past.  Hoping we have some listserv members that can help with advice about CCRC's and interview considerations i.e., is MDS staffing ratio similar for this environment and do you complete RAI process for all beds or are only a portion of them in your CCRC certified?
Any responses welcome.
Thanks.
