Deanna,
If there is evidence that the resident experienced
pain in the previous 7 days, then you code it appropriately, either daily or
less than daily. This can be noted on the MAR when PRNs are given for
breakthrough pain, or on a pain assessment flow sheet, or by asking the resident
(if they are capable of answering) if they have had pain.
If they are receiving routine pain meds, and are
not requiring prns for breakthrough, and state they are having no pain, then you
would code for no pain.
