Submitting these does NOT create problems but not completing/submitting as per Medicare could create an issue for the facility.  Some HMOs follow the same schedule as Medicare.  Even if they don't, if you do not follow the Medicare schedule and you find the resident is Medicare, you subject yourself to possible loss of Medicare if you don't follow the schedule.   One of our facilities did learn this the more difficult way!

Subject: HMO vs Medicare? what to submit?

I have a resident who was admitted medicare, then ended up with conflicting information.  The hospital said she was medicare A.  To cut it short,  she's HMO until Medicare informs the HMO that she has changed  The family says she's medicare!!   So I am going to do PPS mds's until I hear otherwise.  So my question is,  what do I submit?   We have an admission mds that we did that is coded 1/01.   Is there any problem if I submit that?  Won't the medicare sections just be "ignored"?   I plan on doing the 14day PPS mds, but holding it until I hear something, hopefully before the 30 day would be due!
Thanks, Nancy
