This is correct.   Since he had a new 3-day stay, he can used whatever is left of his benefit period without having to worry about the new coverage being related to the original 3-day stay.  If he had had a 60-day break in receiving a skilled level of care, with a new 3-day stay, he would earn a new benefit period.

If the hospital stay of 1/8 was for at least 3 days he can use the
remaining days left in this benefit period.  If he exhausted his MC he
has no days until he has the 60 day break.

He was off Med A from 12/10.  Readmitted to hospital 1/8.  Would the
readmission place him back on MedA and that is why you are saying he
wasn't off for 30 days.  Another opinion I've received says I cannot
cover him because he wasn't picked  up in the SNF w/in 30 days and did
not have a 60 day break.  More opinions, please.  Rena, what's the rule
here, please.
