I know this is probably too late to help you (I just got out of an all afternoon meeting!), but, it is true that the physician may sign the cert/recert earlier than the due date. I have not seen anything that specifies how many days earlier are okay. However, the next recert is due from the dated physician’s signature. So, if he signed the 14 day cert on day 10 of admission, the next recert is due 30 days from the 10th day of admission, not the 14th day. Ex: Admitted January 12th and admission cert was signed on January 17th. The 14 day cert is due 14 days from the dated signature on the admission cert or January 31st , not the 14th day of admission (which would have been January 26th).

I went to a seminar and asked how early can a doctor sign the medicare cert form. They told me "about a week before it's due". I have a resident who's 30 day cert is due to be signed by january 29. Could the doctor sign it today? January 21? Is that ok, or "too early"? I only ask because the doc is in the building right now and I don't know if he'll be back next week. Thanks! Do you Yahoo!? |
