Subject: RE: Self Administered Meds
If and when we have residents that self-administer medications, we
have them document their own medications as well. We provide the
documentation record, in a size that they can utilize, and check each
shift to see if they have taken their medications. Ability to document
them is one of the rational that we use to determine if they aer able.
The documentation also gives us the opportunity to reassess to see that
they remain competent in self-administration.
Just a thought!!!

Subject: Self Administered Meds
We have several residents in our facility who self medicate. The nurses
don't sign off on the MAR for these, but write across it "self
administered". I'm thinking that there should be some way, on a daily
basis, to determine whether the resident takes all the meds as ordered.
How do I code these in section O?
Thanks,
Dorothy
