Title: Medicare Beds

Yes, just because a bed is medicare a certified does not mean that it has to have a resident that is receiving medicare a.  we have 37 medicare a beds now and only have 4 residents on medicare a.  A bed being certified only means that if a resident needs medicare a services then this resident must be in a certified bed to do so.

Subject: Medicare Beds

An 80 bed facility has 16 Medicare certified beds and 6 Medicaid certified beds.  All the rest are private. They have a resident who has completed Medicare A days, but there is no place to transfer this resident since all beds are full.  Can this non Medicare resident stay in the Med A bed and pay privately until a private bed is available?

Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks again.

Angie
