Yes, this is perfectly acceptable. To be on Medicare A, the resident needs to reside in a Medicare A certified bed. There is no requirement that the Medicare certified beds be exclusively for Medicare A residents. Many facilities have all of their beds certified for Medicare A and most of the residents in those beds are NOT Medicare A.

Subject: Medicare Beds
An 80 bed facility has 16 Medicare certified beds and 6 Medicaid certified beds. All the rest are private. They have a resident who has completed Medicare A days, but there is no place to transfer this resident since all beds are full. Can this non Medicare resident stay in the Med A bed and pay privately until a private bed is available?
