Do you consider all residents who are tube fed to be on a "therapeutic diet?" Since
the definition of "therapeutic diet" is "A diet ordered to manage problematic health
conditions. Examples include colorie-specific , low-salt,low-fat lactose, no added
sugar, and supplements during meals."
The concern is for those residents who are receiving a tube feeding formula that is
based on calories per kg of body weight just like they would figure a regular diet for
an orally fed resident. The tube feeding would be given due to either dysphagia or
failure to thrive. Would you consider the dysphagia problematic health conditions
managed by the diet or would you NOT believe this to be a therapeutic diet because it
would be similar to a regular diet just given by a different modality?
