Obviously, this is coming from someone who has never done MDSs. Are they talking about MDSs only, or RAPS, & CP too.... I think it is possible to do an MDS in 20 min IF you have known the resident for years and they never change... and if all the info is right in front of you. However, I hardly ever get these types of residents. And as far as all the info being right in front of you.... I usually have to go hunt info, and find the nurse or cNA to clarify questions that come up. While doing an MDS we are also thinking and assessing the info, and making judgements. (A clerical pereson that just enters info in the computer could do it in 20 min, but they're not a skilled Healthcare professional.) ....... One more comment, when the "hurry up" approach starts affecting the bottom line, one may be told to take a little longer to ensure accuracy. We have just been told from our administration that we are taking too much time doing the MDS, they say it should only take 20 minutes to do a MDS. Can anyone help me find the time studies that have been done. It sure would help to show the powers that be it takes much longer. They have been told by consultants that AANAC is the ultimate in MDS info, so hopefully they will believe it if the info comes from here, thanks.
