There are 2 ways to get a rehab rug on your 5 day PPS assessment:
1. Deliver the actual days and minutes of therapy for a RUG
2. Estimate the days and minutes that therapy will be delivered within the first 15
days.
Your facility did not deliver 5 days of therapy by the ARD, so even though 225 minutes
of therapy were given, only 4 days of therapy were done. So scenario number 1 would
not work for this resident.
So, your RUG has to be based upon the estimation of days and minutes. You are
probably wondering why the estimation is only HIGH since you are projecting so many
minutes. The highest RUG that you can get from an estimation is HIGH. You need to
actually provide the required days and minutes to get any rehab RUG higher than a
HIGH. The letters A,B, C behind a rehab RUG refer to an ADL score. Chapter 6 of the
RAI manual further defines the Medicare RUGS groups.

Here's the scenario:
5 Day PPS MDS

PT 2 days 120 min
OT 2 days 105 min
Section T 10 days estimated

Can anyone explain why RUG is RHB??
Thank you.
