I would try hard to find out who put them on.If I was unable to get anything on them,I
would not code anything except a dsg.I would write a note as to why I did what I
did.We keep a paper in our MDS section that we use to write why we may have made a
particular MDS decision.It is difficult at a later date to explain to a surveyor why
you may have done what you did.I too, had a patient come from hospital who had a boot
on for goodness knows how long,patient couldn't remember who put it on.The RNP removed
it to find skin that was clear and free or any problems.
