If it is discovered later that  a patient ran out of days and the letter is issued 
with a date already past,the resident does not have to legally pay 
retropectively..Medicare is very specific that the beneficiary is given sufficient 
notice to know they will be held financially responsible.This is why we will go into 
the new ABN letters this year.It really is the responsibility of the facility to know 
how many days are available to the beneficiary VIA THE cwf.
