The resident must have had a 3-day qualifying stay during the time that they have Medicare, in other words the hospital must have billed Medicare for the hospital stay. Since your resident's hospital stay will be prior to the initiation of their Medicare benefit, then this current stay is not covered by Medicare. Hope that answers your question!
