You CANNOT skill her now if she used her full 100 days at the prevous facility and continued to receive skilled services due to the PEG tube after her 100 days exhausted. ( Tube feedings 51 % of calories or 26-50% and at least 501 cc per day) The regulation states that the resident must have a 60 day period of wellness (not receiving any skilled services for 60 straight days) before they qualify for another 100 days of Medicare A. There is NO regulation to state that anew 100 days is granted for different skilling reasons--e.g., IV instead of tube feeding. I doubt that she is coverable.

Subject: Peg-tube skillable or not...pls help
Pls. help we have a resident who has peg-tube feeding. She had this peg-tube feeding since last year at the other nursing facility. From that facility, she went to the hospital,
had three day qualifying stay then came to out building. Now, she is receiving IV antiobiotic. Does she qualify for another 100 days? Can we put her on Medicare Part A. Supporting documentation needed. According to other MDS person I talked to, said that his company investigated this two years ago andsaid that you can skill them (resident) again if they have other skilled services eg. IV's other than the peg-tube. I asked for supporting documentation but can not provide one. Pls. help ASAP. Thank you.
