Andrea,
It depends what his last covered day of Medicare was. If his last covered day was day
30, no you don't have to do a PPS 30 day assessment which begins payment on day 31.
If day 31 is his last covered day, then in order to get paid for day 31 at a RUGS rate
other than default you will need to do the 30 day assessment. Try to keep an eye on
this and bargain with therapy to end on a date that does not require an assessment for
just a day. Of course, if the resident requires more therapy he requires more therapy
and that is what should be done. But after a month one more day is not usually a
major issue in a resident's recovery but is a lot of work for the MDS completion.

Subject: 30 day assessment
Hi group,
I have a resident that will come off medicare 3/3/04 (his 31st day of stay). He will
receive therapy today (3/3). Do we still need to complete his 30 day assessment to get
paid for his 31st day of stay?
Andrea.
