All therapy minutes delivered after admission to the SNF may be included as long as they were ordered by a physician, performed by a qualified therapist, and were medically necessary. According to page 3-185 of the RAI User's Manual, "The therapy treatment may occur either inside or outside the facility."
According to the Medicare SNF Manual (Pub 2) [the new online manual system hasn't quite got this into it yet], Chapter 2, Section 230.3B, the definition of Speech Pathology is:
"Speech pathology services are those services necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of speech and language disorders which result in communication disabilities and for the diagnosis and treatment of swallowing disorders (dysphagia), regardless of the presence of a communication disability. They must relate directly and speci fically to a written treatment regimen established by the physician after any needed consultation with the qualified speech pathologist. "
So, I would say - yes - you would count them as long as all of the requirements are met.

I'll try again. I am in a hospital based snu. Can I count speech therapist minutes that she spends conducting swallow evals in radiology. I have seen on this site so far yes and no. I need some clarification . Rena maybe you could assist with this one please.?? Thanks Karen
