Claudia,
As I read your description, the only thing that
comes to my mind is the extra rope threaded through the w/c wheels. Perhaps
state is looking at that as a safety hazard, in that if the vehicle caught fire,
there would be no quick way to release the wheelchairs and get the residents
out?
Otherwise, all I can say is my heart and prayers
are with you. I have been through an IJ survey, and it was one of the least fun
experiences in my life. (until recently)
Keep us posted, please.

I appreciate responses thus far. I empathize over the egg issue,
but I am still feeling Kicked in the ribs over the transport van. As stated on
my orginal email, we didn't do or harm anyone. We never transported more than
2 residents at a time in w/c's in the >20 yrs of this facility. I am at a
loss for words or what to do. The administrator, don and adon, besides myself
are numb. Think about it. The residents never occurred any injury on any
transports whether to go to Walmart, dinner or for a MD appt. The van is safe.
The two w/c are locked in to the floor. What we did is besides a driver, only
if two were going, another CNA went to sit in the back of the van w/the
residents or a family member who by choice wanted to go. If only one resident,
just the driver went. Anyway, for extra safety, we would take a rope,
thread it threw the w/c wheels and provide an extra source of
stablization and security. THAT is it..... We have called the N.C.
transportation etc departments, they don't even have a policy or stan dard
when called, which was the head cheese, he did say he would get back to
us....The DMV, etc, EMS, manufactures of these vans, handicap etc have all
been contacted. This disgruntled employee also has filed a discrimination
suite to boot, and OSHA is coming in. What are the odds, that are annual state
survery will be extra early this year? Like within a couple of weeks, not due
until september of this year. Thanks for all your responses so
much.
