According to the August 2003 update to the RAI manual, page 3-176 for O1 Number of
Medications, 'Pereparations used for preventative care would not be included here."
So, if the EPC is used as a skin barrier to prevent breakdown do not code it. But if
it is used to treat a condition, then it would be coded.

Subject: Section O - Medications / Eucerin

Question
Nurse has to sign off on Treatment Kardex for EPC cream (which contains
zinc) and Eucerin cream. As a rule, are you counting these as medications? I
have not been but one of my staff thinks they should be. I read in the
manual 3-176 and it is not very clear - it just says topicals and ointments
(i considered those like Hydrocortisone, Lotrimi etc - not barrier cream and
Eucerin)
Thanks in advance
