Thank you
Shellie for taking the time to write it...... you guys sound like a great team
and you all understand it should always be about the "resident".
That mind set is hard to find at times, but when you get a team that practices
that philosphy everyday you can never go wrong. Congrats
again.

Holly,
I think what sets us apart is the interdisciplanary
team. We are always looking for ways to improve the quality of life for
our residents. We work together, and support eachother. We have a
wounderful activity department, and a therapy department. They both are
not afraid to change, or to come up with ideas to make our residents
lives better. We have added to our regular therapy program an extra
exercise group, the therapy girls in conjunction with the activity department,
and physical therapist, and per request of our res, set up an extra exercise
program that the res. go to 3 times weekly, and do exercises to videos, one
week the exercised to the music "let do the twist". The residents loved
it and are still talking about it 3 weeks later. We have staff that are
very intune with the feelings of the residents, and are not afraid to approach
someone from the care planning team with a concern, or idea. We seen
there was a need to come up with some afternoon activities for our demented
residents, so with the blessing of the administrator, I got together some
staff members, and we formed an activity committee. The problem now is
to many ideas, and not enough staff to do it. I feel what sets us apart
is the fact we try and make the facility more like the residents homes.
Right now we have a contest going on to name each hall, then we will
personalize each hall. We are also setting up an area where we will have
a big screen tv, for the resident to watch, and there will be game tables, and
a snack bar. We are going to be setting up some type of a garden in our
enclosed court yard for the ones who want to garden can. I am working on
a newsletter for the facility, and in it we will have stories from the
residents. We are also working on ways to get the community more
involved, by volunteering and coming in and doing activities with the
residents, especially in the evenings, and on weekends. Starting a type
of make a wish foundation, for res. on their birthday, secret pal program for
staff to be a secret pal to a resident. So see we are all working
together for the best interest of our residents. I know this is long but
we have so much going on and I wanted to share it with you. I am really
proud of our staff, and of the work we are doing. The award was just
icing on the cake.
Shellie
- I would love to get your thoughts on what sets your facility apart. Do you
think it is the Management, a certain person on the management team i.e.
your administrator, the staff, the programming.......? Would love to here
your thoughts. Thank you.

EXEMPLARY AWARD
Just got some good news yesterday, and wanted to share it
with everyone. We had our state survey the last of Feburary,
we were deficiency free for the 2nd year in a row. They told
us they were going to nominate us for the exemplary award for our
activities, and our rehab/therapy. The administrator
informed us that we recived the award. Boy it times like
this that make this job fun. The activity and therapy
department do a wounderful job, and in some cases are overlooked
for all the good they do. Just wanted to share a bit of good
news with everyone.
