Keep in mind that you would also be able to use grace days with the 14 day PPS
assessment as the admission assessment has already been completed. Remember, the
admission assessment through Vb2 must be completed by day 14 (March 27) and care
planned within 7 days of completing the RAPS or Vb2. There are 2 sets of rules here
that you need to follow. One is the OBRA guidelines for the admission assessment and
the other is the PPS guidelines. Both sets of rules should be met. ON the PPS side as
Carol described below, you are late, but complete the assessment and send it in. Set
the 14 day PPS no sooner than 11 days from admission to the medicare unit and no later
than 19 days from adm. to the medicare unit.
Keep an eye on your OBRA assessment as you will need to do the first quarterly
within 92 days of the completion of the admission assessment. Also continue the PPS
schedule. If by chance the resident stays on medicare the entire 100 days and you do
get to do a 90 PPS assessment, you will probably be able to combine these assessments,
but make sure the R2b is by the 92nd day from the initial assessment. You may need to
set the 90 day a little early ( you can set this ARD as early as day 80) to complete
the quarterly timely.
