In Massachusetts the surveyors come with a set of QIs that helps them pick the records
they will review.Their are certain areas that they will automatically look at,those
centenial events as well as anything 90% or above. They can also focus on 75% or
above.Last year they had a QI report that was 6 months old, didn't make much sense to
me.We are in our survey window now so we pull our QIs weekly to try to determine their
resident focus. We had used our QIs for our QA projects preceding survey.I think anyone
in a facility knows your strengths and weaknesses before the survey team tells you,of
course you will always have those unexpected episodes that might come up,those that
none of us want to happen during survey. One place where I was a few years ago,had
patient go outside and fall during survey,of course they were tagged for a poor
elopement policy. This particular patient never wandered out,nor did any others at that
time. Those are the things you don't want to happen during survey.Last year we had a
resident expire while they were wi
th us,they were very focused as to how we handled the rmmate, how quick Dr and family
was notified, how quick funeral home came.
