I think a key
factor is how long she is in her w/c rather than the recliner as it says she
uses both. She can be up in the w/c in her room & if it's over 2
hours, she is not considered bedfast as she is in sitting position rather than
reclined.

This applies whether the resident chooses this or is physically incapacitated.In my last facility I had 2 residents who would be bedfast by definition on one assessment and not on another. One only left her room for a shower and she would only consent to that once a week. On rare occasions she would venture out into the hall. The other resident was 105 years old and was almost blind. He would only leave his room for a shower once a week as well. My DON at the time was concerned about the QI report with bedfast residents, but I coded what happened during the assessment lookback and care planned accordingly. Need lots of input on this one.Resident: A&O X3.Cont. of B&B.Ambulates to and from the toilet several times throughout the day. Staff reports it takes aprox 15 for her to ambulate to and from each time.She occasionally ambulates in the hall. To the hairdresser 2-3 times a month and when she feels like it. Staff reports that she will let you know when she wants to walk.She prefers to stay in her room and in bed a lot of the time. When up she is usually in the w/c or recliner.She does not attend activities outside of her room. Receives lots of mail.She is no longer on a restorative ambulation program because she walks when she wants and only when she wants. She only needs assist of 1 when ambulating.She has areas on her spine, which is curved, that open and heal and open and heal, from not wanting to turn from side to side.State says she should have been coded as bedfast.
