No. Per the manual, drugs are coded according to their classification,
not use. See pg. 3-180.

As far as the drug listing on Page App 3-1, you can tell this listing
has not been updated in a while. A lot of the newer meds are not on
there, ie Resperdol, Zyprexa, Ambien, etc.

I would not code Phenobarbital as an antianxiety. In every drug book we
have (PDR, etc), it is listed as an anticonvulsant. I believe this
listing may be old and Phenobarbital in years gone by, may have been
listed as an antianxiety, but I have not seen it used this way in many
years.

Is it given for a hypnotic effect or does the resident have a seizure
disorder? If it's used as a hypnotic, it would have to be coded as
such.

Can anyone help me? Phenobarbital in Section O, listed as what? I
always thought it was an anticonvulsant, and my pharmacist is saying it
is a hypnotic. The MDS Manual from Briggs has it listed as an
antianxiety agent. Can anyone tell me what they code it as on the MDS?
Thanks, Linda Salvatore
