Title: Clear Day
You need to show the manual to the surveyor where it defines bedfast. see page 3-112. " Resident is in bed or a recliner for 22 hours or more a day." Show them the explanation for G6a and you should be okay. Just make sure the resident is care planned for all the implications of being bedfast. Good luck

Subject: FW: Coding of Bedfast

I have a question on the coding of bedfast in section G.  I have a resident with MS who gets out of bed daily in her recliner chair(lazy boy type chair) in her room.  She never comes out of her room except to get her shower once a week.  I have her coded as bedfast.  We have a survey team here now and two of them are telling me that she is not bedfast.  They said that because she is getting out of bed more than 3 hours 3 days a week than I cannot classify her as bedfast.  Am I coding this incorrectly?
