Seems to me it would be helpful for AANAC to post some information on basic Medicare coverage options. Perhaps we already have this and I am unaware.
Some clarification between SNF Medicare Coverage and ancillary coverage.
Some of the Insurance companies offer both assigned Medicare benefits and supplementary policies. I never answer Medicare questions until clients give me all of the specifics of coverage. both for the primary payer and supplementary coverage.
I had benefits assigned to Secure Horizons--they were to cover everything part A and B. It was a mess and limited access to physicians.
I switched to Medicare fee for service for Part A and B and BX Preferred for the supplementary. All of my Medicare Part A and B services are first billed to Medicare and then to BX.
BX covered some of the Medicare non-covered services--big time.
I have no pre-auth and I can schedule an appointment with any physician that accepts Medicare -- got to love it

AA5b is there to list all payment sources, you need to put all numbers in no matter what they have.

I have a resident who's stay was paid by an HMO. However, billing says she also has Medicare. Do I put her Medicare # in AA5b on her MDS? if Medicare did NOT pay for her stay? I never have before, now billing is putting the numbers in.
Thanks, Nancy
