State survey has now passed for one facility that I am
associated with. All I have to say is pain, pain,
pain, and pain assessments. If you are in the state
of Iowa, I can say that this is the big one that they
are hitting on this year. You need to make sure that
you have crossed every T and dotted every I in this
situation. Make sure that you are assessing pain,
have interventions for pain, and assessing the
usefullness of pain meds and the effects the pain meds
are having on the resident. Also assess residents to
see if the medication you are giving are not causing
adverse side effects on the residents and that you are
documenting really, really well that you are
discussing with the doctors about effects of the meds,
and what that doctor is doing about it. I have one
more nursing home to go through state with, so all I
have to say to the rest of you is good luck. And for
the rest of you in other states just follow what I
just wrote, because I don't know what they are looking
for in your state but sure it is the same thing.
