This would really depend on the resident's clinical status and co-morbidities.  If no other skilled service is identified then you would cut them from Med A.  If the MD lifts the NWB restriction on 5/21, you would be able to pick them back up on Medicare A as long as they are within the 30-day window  from the date you cut them originally from Medicare.

Subject: delay of therapy

How long can we use a delay of therapy d/t weight bearing restrictions to keep someone covered for Medicare A?  I have a hip fracture repair resident whose status is NWB on affected side.  Therapy provided services as much as they could while in the NWB status, but have now discontinued sessions until weight bearing status is progressed.  The next orthopedic appointment is not until 5-21-04.
Thanks.
