I couldn't agree more, Rob.  My doc friends here told me some time ago that the "cure from transplant was somewhat misleading", as most transplant patients were only followed for a period of ten years, which was considered a time period denoting cure.  What happened after that was anyone's guess, as statistical data was sketchy.

With the apparent success of new drug trials I don't think a real "cure" in terms of addressing the actual cause on a deeper level and getting rid of those pesky quiescent cells is really that far off.

I have had some side effects from Gleevec such as rashes some peripheral edema but nothing I can't deal with.  I also gained 32 pounds from the time I was diagnosed.   I also am pretty foggy mentally but I am unsure if it is Gleevec or side effects of depression.  I rather think it is the depression.  I have been able to drop all 32 pounds plus 2 more using a low carbohydrate diet and moderate exercise.  I am of the opinion that if one can force oneself to eat a bit less and control the fat storing process, then one can lose the weight associated with CML unless it is water retention due to cortical steroids or something of that nature.  In my discussions with Doctor Druker,  he opined that CML often causes depression and that needs to treated as aggressively as acid refulx or heartburn etc.  He put me on Prevacid and recommended I talk to a shrink for the depression.  I did and still do and take Wellbutrin and it seems to be working pretty well.

Thanks again for a great forum.
