I spent a lot of time yesterday thinking about that horrible day 3
years ago. I can remember turning on the tv and watching it all
day. I kind of took an inventory in my head of anyone I knew who
might have been in New York or Washington or flying on an airplane
that day. And I thought all were safe.
Then the next day my Mom called and told me that my cousin Terry was
at the Pentagon. Unfortunately he was there for a meeting and was
sitting right where the plane hit.
[Cheryl-Anne Simoneau] I am so sorry for your loss. It is still so difficult to imagine how so many people were taken from this world in one day. I was unable to make it to DC for the Memorial Service and I still feel bad about that. Travelling at
that time was hard and we are 13 hours away.
[Cheryl-Anne Simoneau] I travel quite a bit and I still get nervous sometimes. The reminder is always there though, all the tighter security rules, which I don't mind, but it is kind of like a scar from surgery. When you look at it you remember the sense of loss. I don't want to start a political debate, but the other thing that went through my head a day or so after, and this was only because I was so sick, was I wonder how many people won't find a perfect bone marrow donor, because their match was in one of the towers, or on a plane, or in the pentagon.This was months before I was diagnosed with CML.
I pray that our country never has to go through something like that
