Hello Dee
After one year on Gleevec, 400 mg a day, I too had a
scan. It showed me to be what the doctor called pre-osteoporosis and with
some bone loss. My doctor put me on Evista and the bone pain stopped
immediately. Now, the fact that I am 53 and fully menopausal might also be the
ingredient for the bone density problem too. My oncologist does not have a
problem with me taking Evista with Gleevec. It does not seem to bother my
liver counts or give any other indication that it is not okay to take it.
Hope this helps.

Dear Friends in CML,
I found out the results of my dexascan today. I am on the edge of osteopenia, and my primary care physician is prescribing Fosamax for me to take. Has anyone else been diagnosed with bone loss since taking Gleevec? I have been on Gleevec since July 2002. It has been 5 years since I had my first dexascan, but it was very normal then. Does anyone take Fosamax or a similar medication with their Gleevec? Dee dxd 6/02 New!
