Dear Skink:
I would not be too worried about your high platelet count just now.  If you have only been on Gleevec for a week or so, please know that it took me about three months to stabilize my counts.  My white cells did come down very, very fast, but my platelets always hung up in the high digits. I was over 1 million upon diagnosis, so it took a while for them to hit the 350K range.
In fact, there are some of us on the list known as turtles....it took me 1.5 years to achieve complete cytogenetic remission, some others took only a couple of months to achieve it and I felt very left behind. But now, my remission stays stable, thanks to Gleevec.
So, I would not be too worried....give it time and things will stabilize. Nice to see you post, and good luck! - Lynne A.
